The Ramanujan Prize was established in 2005 to recognize outstanding work by young mathematicians in fields related to the work of the late Srinivasa Ramanujan -- the age limit for the prize is 32. Tsimerman is recognized for his work on the Andre-Oort Conjecture and for his mastery of both analytic number theory and algebraic geometry. Tsimerman completed his Ph.D. at Princeton in 2011 under the supervision of Professor Peter Sarnak, where his doctoral thesis, "Towards an unconditional proof of the Andre-Oort conjecture and surrounding problems" laid the ground work for his work on the Andre-Oort Conjecture in recent years (you can read find the full citation here).The prize will be awarded this December at the International Conference on Number Theory at SASTRA University. Since its inception, 6 of the 12 Ramanujan Prize winners have been Princeton graduate alumni: Manjul Bhargava *01, Kannan Soundararajan *98, Terrance Tao *96, Akshay Venkatesth *02, Zhiwei Yun *09, and now Tsimerman *11.
